Mostly, fasting plasma glucose test is preferred, as it is economical, fast and very quick to perform.

In order to combat this serious disorder, anti diabetes medicines can be taken to treat deficiency of insulin and monitor the level of blood sugar in the body. These medication help in reducing the blood sugar level of the body thereby activating the secretion of insulin and lessening the absorption of carbohydrates. One may also use several medical devices like insulin pumps, glucose meters, injection, insulin pens etc for examining and controlling blood glucose levels.

Besides taking medical assistance, diabetes can be cured and treated just by following some home made remedies as well. Healthy and nutritious food that helps in keeping the glucose level controlled is a must. Regular exercising, meditating and self-glucose monitoring are also needed as they alleviate the risk of the long-term complications associated with diabetes.

Even scientists and doctors are trying to develop less harmful drugs and improved ways of transplanting beta cells for anticipating rejection by the body. They are now resorting to bioengineering for generating artificial beta cells that will secrete insulin whenever glucose levels reaches to higher levels in the blood.
