Hospital Bed During the last couple of years the traditional, electronically controlled hospital beds have undergone a sea change. Hospital beds of today are an integral part in patient care and have become more sophisticated in terms of their mattresses, frames and sidebars loaded with software for monitoring the patient's status, weight, movement and safety. The industry is also driven towards economy due to concerns of patient safety, continuing nursing shortage, and a need for efficient reimbursement. Generally, patient beds consist of critical care and medical or surgical beds. Critical Care Beds are meant for use in intensive care units and critical care Units. Medical or surgical beds are found on patient floors. Birthing beds or obstetric beds on the other hand are found in hospitals' maternity suites. While the hospital bed market is not booming at present, statistics reveal that hospital beds will be in demand in the coming years. As a result, hospital bed accessories such as cervical pillow, vacuum mattress, pressure mattress, bedside screens, memory foam pillow, etc, too would be demand more. For instance, about 30 million people in the US are over 65 at present, and this figure will swell to 65 million by 2025. As a result, there would be a increase of 40 in the demanded capacity for hospital beds by 2010.
