Periosteal Elevator
Periosteal elevator is an instrument used in vetenary dental surgery. It is used for separating the periosteum from the bone. During surgery the dentist often needs to separate a bone or tooth from the fibrous membrane, called the periosteum that covers it. This is done with a Periosteal elevator. The dentist may also use it to gain access to retained roots and surrounding bone. The tips require protection and need to be kept very sharp otherwise shredding of the flap can happen. The most common types in use are the double ended Molt P9 but also the Molt 2 and Molt 4. Other types available are periosteotome, Fedi and Ochsenbein chisels.
